I am an intuitive and accomplished reflexologist with more than fifteen years in the field of complementary therapies. Over the years, I have perfected a unique method of reflexology, incorporating reiki and lymphatic drainage into my therapeutic treatments, to benefit the whole family.
Modern life has never felt more complicated than of late, and my treatments help couples and families find comfort and develop resilience in these challenging times.
How is reflexology different from a foot rub?
As anyone knows, a foot rub or a foot massage is both relaxing and soothing after exercise or standing on one's feet all day. In contrast, reflexology is a therapy developed in the 20th Century that has its origins in traditional treatments first practised in Ancient Egypt and China.
Reflexology is an holistic therapy that works by clearing energy pathways (sometimes referred to as "blockages" or "crystals"). The therapist applies pressure to specific points of the foot. Symbiosis between these points and the whole body makes reflexology a non-invasive, non-pharmacological therapy suited to treating a range of ailments; bringing comfort and increasing vitality and energy levels. Applying pressure on the reflex points balances the nervous system and stimulates the release of endorphins to reduce stress and pain.
Reflexology has proven benefits in relieving digestive problems, tension headaches and migraines, arthritis, insomnia and anxiety, sports injuries, and hormonal imbalances caused by premenstrual syndrome and menopause. This non-invasive therapy can also be applied to pressure points in the hands (as necessary) and is safe to use with post-operative patients or those in palliative care.
Why did I become a reflexologist?
I became interested in alternative therapies after I studied philosophy. I gained insight into the tangible connections between mental wellbeing and the physical systems of the body. In adolescence I developed asthma and Irritable Bowel Syndrome and looked for ways to treat these conditions holistically. When I received reflexology treatments myself, my mental and physical wellbeing improved and I was drawn to learning everything I could about this ancient therapy.
Why do I specialise in pregnancy reflexology?
For the past ten years, I have specialised in pregnancy and fertility reflexology. I also give baby massage classes, which are a pure joy. Reflexology is safe to use during all stages of pregnancy; it works with the feet and lower leg and achieves so many positive benefits throughout the entire journey of this exciting stage of your life. As a mother of two myself, I had a difficult second pregnancy with my daughter. I came to realise that pregnancy is both a magical but also highly emotional time. There were times when I felt lonely, misunderstood by my partner, unsure of myself as a pregnant woman and sometimes overwhelmed by uncertainty. Reflexology restores and rebalances; there are highs and lows during pregnancy and it's very important to support couples during this period whether they are trying to conceive or welcoming another child into their growing families. For the expectant mother, the treatment deepens the connection with her own body and with her baby. Couples are often amazed at the reactions of a foetus or their baby during my reflexology treatments. I have been awed by these experiences.
Over the years, I have used reflexology to help couples conceive, induce a natural labour, rebalance hormones and relieve the physical, psychological and emotional stresses of parenting. I work with babies, children and adults to restore a sense of equilibrium and wellbeing, encourage a restful sleep, soothe physical aches and pains, and aid digestive issues. To name but a few..
Which products complement reflexology?
As an experienced therapist, I have worked with a range of skincare products on my clients. Whilst I have always used well-known, organic products, nothing approached the quality or malleability I was looking for. For this reason, I have developed a range of bespoke blends of natural essential oils that can be used during reflexology or massage or as part of one's health and beauty regimen. Mariposa Oils and Little Mariposa Oils (specifically for children) to empower adults and children to find alternative ways to benefit a range of health conditions and beauty needs. My specialty is creating bespoke blends on request to suit individual health and beauty needs so Mariposa Oils can become part of your daily life, taking care of yourself holistically or they make an ideal gift.
